I am Mog Anarchy, and I like to play games. Whether they are old, new, retro, modern, online, offline, console, computer, critically acclaimed or notoriously bad. Here on my blog, I rant about, review, trash talk, praise and generally talk about all of my favourite and least-favourite games. I also write my own guides on how to accomplish tricky tasks, show off my creative endeavors and challenge myself with crazy in-game tasks. I also have a bunch of gaming merchandise which I am glad to show off. So drop me a comment, I love hearing your questions, criticisms, comments and general gaming discussions. :)

My Fallout 4 Settlements

-------------------------------------------------------------

Playing huge sandbox RPGs like Fallout 3 and Skyrim - one of the things I really enjoyed doing in between the literal hundreds of quests was to decorate my player homes. I'm still unsure from where I was able to pluck the patience required to meticulously position every single bottle on shelves and wrestle unwieldy floppy clothing into piles using only the right stick on my wired Xbox 360 controller.

One feature that debuted in Fallout 4 was the settlement building and management aspect - which to me, naturally was the next step up from decorating player homes - the ability to not only build your home, or multiple homes at that - but the ability to erect whole settlements from the ground up. Admittedly it's a feature that not all players appreciated having - those who would rather be off completing the quests, exploring the wastelands and plotting creative ways to dispose of Preston Garvey than nitpicking every old factory building for minute pieces of scrap needed to build another powered water pump to please their whining settlers.

I, on the other hand am I huge fan of the settlement building aspect. It's easier for me, being a PC player - to quickly tap in player.modav carryweight 1000000 and essentially never have to worry about a) being over-encumbered again and b) not having enough scrap to build with. I also have access to mods - many of which not only fix the slightly glitchy or broken aspects of settlements but can also enhance them in many different ways.

So I've set myself a challenge - build a thriving community at every available settlement within the base game and the six added with the game's DLC. I must keep my settlers as happy as possible and provide all of the amenities people would need to live comfortably (i.e. toilets, recreation, communal areas) - and many of the settlements will follow a specific theme. All of my settlers will also be armed and dressed painstakingly by hand...

MY SETTLEMENTS

MODS

Here are the mods I've used - bear in mind not every settlement uses every single mod listed here.

Diverse Cats (and Dogs)
Reskins the standard grey tabby house cat and junkyard dog into dozens of other fur patterns (cats) and breeds with different worn armour and accessories (dogs).

Do It Yourshelf
Allows you to easily decorate shelves and cupboards with books, decorations, clutter etc.

Functional Displays
Adds new display racks for weapons and shelves for clutter items.

Homemaker
Possibly the best mod for settlement building - allows you to construct virtually every type of structure, furniture and object that already exists within the base game.

Robot Vendors
Allows Automatron robots to become traders at settlements.

Scrap Everything
A MUST HAVE mod for settlement building - allows you to scrap *almost* everything, including the unsightly piles of trash, debris and buildings that are beyond repair.

Snappable Junk Fences
Allows the junk fences to snap together seamlessly with each other and also with guard towers.

SnapBeds
Allows you to build bunk beds, wall-mounted cots etc and also snap pillows to the beds.

Super Mutant Furniture
Adds usable chairs and cooking pots that can be used by the Super Mutant companion Strong.

Thematic & Practical
Adds a ton of new buildable objects, all with a pleasing scrap or trashed look as if the settlers have scavenged and built furniture from whatever was available.
